Please know that the cost of a
puppy does not stop with the purchase of the puppy. Three weeks
after a puppy is purchased, it will need to be seen by a licensed
veterinarian for its second set of immunizations. Three weeks
after that visit to the vet, the puppy will need to return to the
veterinarian again for its third set of immunizations. These
boosters are a must! If the initial cost of a puppy cannot be afforded, then that leads me to believe that
mandatory medical costs cannot be afforded for the puppy as well.
Aside from the immunizations, ALL DOGS MUST BE PLACED ON HEARTWORM PREVENTION and it is not cheap. If an owner skips the prevention, worms collect in the dog's heart and eventually kill it. It suffers. There is treatment once a dog has heartworm but it is costly. The price of heartworm treatment is about equivalent to the price of what 10 years of heartworm prevention would have been if it had been purchased responsibly in the first place. The puppy/dog will also need parasite
prevention such as Frontline for fleas and ticks and this is not cheap
either. The dogs must have it! Some owners think that
they can forego this prevention. Would they want to go through a
day scratching at lice on their head? No. So why
would anyone think that their best friend should suffer with
these parasites? |
